Spring allergies got you like what?

So I am one of the lucky ones that does not struggle with allergies when the trees start to bloom every April. However my two boys have a really hard time with it (beginning when they were about two years old) with the typical reactions of drippy and tickly noses and severe eye irritation. For both it was really bad the first couple of year, but their reactions have been improving with each new year and I’m hoping that soon enough it won’t be an issue at all. I feel this has much to do with our natural approach managing their springtime allergies which may be helping them build a tolerance. Here are some of the things we do to get by while we wait for nature to do it’s thing every spring.

Close the Windows

As nice as it is to let the fresh warm breeze blow through your house or car, keeping the windows closed helps keep the outside from coming in.

Cleanliness is next to…

This time of year, I have my boys wash their faces along with their hands as soon as they come inside. I also try to remind them to wash their hands at school after recess, but I’m not sure how often that happens! We do this to rinse off any pollen residue to prevent them from further rubbing it into their eyes and other sensitive areas.

For the same reason, if the boys are done playing outside for the day, they take a shower to be nice and clean and to prevent contaminating the couches and their beds with pollen.

I also wash their bedsheets a little more frequently in the spring just in case there are particles on their linens, they won’t be lying (and rubbing their faces) on them for long.

Boost Your Immunity

Building your immunity naturally is going to better help your body tolerate the changing seasons. One great way to do this is by using local, unprocessed honey because it contains low levels of pollen from the local area.

A lovely way to enjoy the honey is with our Spring Tea fortified with Young Living Vitality Oils.

Essential Oils

We have found that using essential oils helps my boys get through the spring months. We diffuse these oils in their bedrooms every night and they have a roller ball with these oils to roll onto their feet every morning.

Using these three oils have helped my boys maintain their active lifestyle and enjoy the outdoors without any drowsy or “loopy” side-affects!

    1. Hi Kathie, thanks for your question! We do about 20 drops of each essential oil then top off with a carrier oil (we use Avocado Oil) in a 10ml roller bottle. We apply to the bottoms of our feet, the hairline, and brow line, making sure to avoid getting close to the eyes.
